Bankstown V Penrith United round 4

Bankstown City see red red red at CUA Stadium

16.03.08

RED RED RED was the only color that Peter Tsekenis’ Bankstown City could see in their game against Penrith United today at CUA stadium. With Peter Tsekenis soundly seated in the stand, Bankstown City went out hoping to get their first win of the season, but it wasn’t to be.

Both teams started on a relative high, with Penrith being awarded a penalty in the first 6 minute, the reason for the penalty was not clear but despite the protests from the lions players the decision was final. Penrith put the penalty away, giving them the start they needed.

In the 18th minute, Philip Makrys was given his marching orders after a high tackle on one of the Penrith players, the tack had no malice but with referee was right on the spot.  This unsettled Bankstown and Penrith were able to put away their second of the game.

Five  minutes later Steve Liavas was given his marching orders after a pretty soft tackle, leaving Bankstown with 9 men on the park.

With only nine men Bankstown came out hoping to salvage some pride and regroup after the break. On the other hand Penrith  came out with the view to maintaining their lead  by drawing  9 players behind the ball and letting Bankstown bring the game to Penrith hoping to tire.

Bankstown did bring the game to Penrith, with George Nohra hitting the cross bar minutes into the second half.

In the dying 10 minutes Penrith were able to put another away after stretching the tiring Bankstown  defence.

Over all an entertaining game marred by some controversial decisions, that no doubt had some effect the final outcome.

A good result for Penrth, a result that came out of the blue for the lions, which will no doubt have to rethink their strategy if they want to be finals contenders.
